The Torah teaches us:
ואכלת ושבעת וברכת את־יהוה אלהיך על־הארץ הטבה אשר נתן־לך
When you have eaten your fill, give thanks to Havayah your G!d/dess for the good land which Zhe has given you. (Deut 8:10)
More simply said: When you have eaten and are satisfied, bless!
So after each meal many of us have the practice of giving thanks by reciting a version of “Birkat Hamazon,” a blessing of gratitude for the food we have eaten.
Gratitude is not only a daily practice in Jewish teachings and traditions, but something that is prompted multiple times of day through prayers in the daily prayer cycle and the practice of brachot, blessings.
What follows is what for me is a Birkat Hamazon for the holidays. I first wrote this for Passover many years ago. My daily practice is a shorter version of Birkat Hamazon found in the Kohenet siddur.
